BILLIARD TOURNAMENT
J lie third heat of the first round was played Last night at the Fire Brigade Station., and resulted in a win for Anderson by 28 points. The game was verv interesting. Mason practically leading ""all the way"—at one stage *bv 125. Tho general opinion of the spectators was that Anderson could not win on the general play; but the fact was that Mason was getting all the "leaves" and Anderson was fighting against fate—what all billiard players experience. However, the law of average came in, and Anderson got <=om~ opportunities, and took advantage of them" and by determined play elowlv redv--ed the lead, and with some good breaks caught and passed Mason. Anderson's breaks ot 77, coming at " tho moment." did the thing, and Mason was beaten. Anderson s experience in thesa tournaments came to his rescue, as he is an old campaigner. Mason, however, showed reajlv cood cuing and trood billiards; also a zood knowledge of the game. There is no doubt it was a really splendid game, and worth seeing. Anderson's best break was 77, and Mason's 52.
