KAIKORAI BAND

The annual meeting of the members of the Kaikorai Band was held last evening, Mr L. ICeuinitz presiding over a. good attendance. - Tho committee, in submitting the 36th annual report, thanked the members for the unflagging zeal and enthusiasm they had shown during the past year, enabling the band to give creditable performances whenever they appeared in public. They were largely indebted to those of their older members who came forward so often to assist, a.nd"aLso to members of other .bands, who had frequently given their services. All the single men'of military age in the band had volunteered for service, but some had been debarred from serving through physical defects, and when it was considered that 15 men out of a nominal roll of 26 were on active service, the record was a creditable one. The band had had no paid engagements during the year, and had subsisted entirely upon collections and donations. In addition to the weekly practices, the band had paraded in uniform on 39 occasions, including 14 evening performances. The report specially mentioned the services of t./o of the chief executive officers—Messrs H. T. Davie and D. WheJan. The choice of Mr Davie as conductor some two- years ago bad been a matter fov further congratulation, and as band sergeant Mr Whelan was also the right man in the right place. The minor offices of the tend had also been capably filled, notably that of custodian, which was in the hands of Mr R. Farquharson. The secretary, treasurer, and other officers had also done excellent work. The balancesheet disclosed a reduction of the liabilities of the band by nearly 45 per cent, as compared with the previous year. , There was at the end of the year a large balance In favor of assets over liabilities. The most pressing need durn g the incoming year would "be the purchase of new i.niforms, and ways and means to this end would have to be discussed at once. The Chairman congratulated the band on laving maintained their high standard of efficiency and their popularity with the public. Members had always shown a moat commendable promptitude in turning out for patriotic and other functions. He moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Mr T. B.
