The condition of the Legislative Council will be the subject of a pertinent question by the Hon. J. T. Paul, who on Thursday will ask: 1. Whether "the Government have considered.the position of the Legislative Council? 2. If so, do the Government consider * that the Council's present membership of 24 |a proportion of which is unablo regularly to attend the sittings of the Council) constitutes an efficient body for the effective transaction of, and responsibiiitv attaching to, a Second Ohatnber? 3."Wi1l the Government tell the country plainly what they propose to do with the Council as regards its constitution : (a) Whether the Council is to b» kept in its present unrepresentative state and reduced strength; or (b) whether some "further proposal is oon- , templated in the direction of undermining the present law providing for the 'election of the Legislative Council by the people?
