A French communique states: On the east, bank of the Meuse, after the capture of Fort Vara;, our infantry continued to advance as far as the outskirts of the village ofVaux and to the north of Vaux Lake.. Wo gained a footing on the crest dominating, the village. The enemy did not counter-attack. November 5. We have extended our progress on the east bank of tho Meuse and in tho region of Vaux. We hold the western part of the village, and have advanced ceveral hundred yards to the north-east and east of the foTt on the slopes descending to the Woevre. There has been an intermittent tannonade elsewhere.
