" • . Wimmera,. froni Melbourne; Nov. 14. The Ivarori is duo here on Monday from Westport. The Waihora is duo here to-morrow from Calcutta, Singapore, and Bunbury via Bluff. The Corinna, from Wellington, arrived here early this morning, and will leave to-night for New Plymouth via ports. The Tarawera is duo to-morrow from Auckland via ports, and leaves on return journey on Tuesday. Tho Kaituna leaves Ivaipara to-morrow for Melbourne. '*■ Tho Somerset went down to Port Ohalmers this morning to commenco her Homeward' loading. Tho death occurred, at Napier on Monday of Captain E. J. v E. Stringer, second son of Mr J. 11. Stringer, of Christchurch, and elder brother of Mr H. G. Stringer, manager of tho Feilding Freezing Company (says the Feilding 'Star'). The late Captain Stringer, who was well known in Feilding, spent most of tho 48 vears of his adventurous life at sea, where ho won honors in international service. Ho sailed over tlio Seven Seas, ran tho blockade for tho Russians during their war with Japan, saw much service in Chinese waters, acted as a transport officer for tho American navy during tho Philippine War, and was afterwards offered a big post by tho U.S.A. if ho would become a citizen. Ho remained an Enirlislmian. Ho was a cousin of Mr Justice Stringer. Messrs Burns, Philp, and Co. advise that tho Aki Maru, en route from Sydney to Yokohama, has reached Hongkong, Also that tho Nikko Maru is on her way . from Japan to Australian ports, and has a quantity of cargo for New Zealand. which will probably bn transhipped at Sydney. Included in tho passenger list are 14 Chineso for Townsvillo. 17 for Brisbane, 37 for Sydney, 30 for Melbourne, 3 for Auckland, and 9 for Wellington. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori arrived at Lyttelton at 7.25 a.m., and connected with tho first express. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
