SERIOUS MOTOR ACCIDENT

A motor accident resulted in the death of J[_r William Forbes, representative of the National Mutual Insurance Company, and serious injury lo two ladies (Miss'c-; Sullivan and Forbes). They were driving airing Fitzroy street towards the Maiiawatu River, where the road ends abrupt ly afc Uie top of a cliff 40ft hitch. Thcv were not acquainted with the locality, and drove straight on turnuyj] a fate, which is usually closed. The car fell on to the river bed. Mr Forbes was killed instantly. One of the la-dies was rendered unconscious. The other escaped with a shaking, hut in returning from suinmnniurr a;'J s ] lo f c ]] over a declivity, brcakim.; one of her wrists and sniftering other injuries.
