STURDY INFANTRY

MAIN BODY ARRIVE. 1,100 MEN AT THE DRfLL HALL. Tlio citizens turned out in force last evening to witness the arrival of tho two optoial trains convoying tho major portion o£ tho troops which aio to parade tho city to-morrow afternoon. 'Jlio first train, bringing 9 officers, a mm*, arid 289 men, drew in punctually At. fu>2, find tho men were soon on the march t/> Kensington. They were played out by throo »chool bands, and met with n, wittm welcome. A great crowd had assembled by tho tirno tho woond train arrived at 8.30. Lower High r.tr<;«)t w.i". black with people, and tho t,roo|>«, headed by tho Salvation Army Band, met with a great reception, being oh'/:rod all along the route. The men themselves were in high spirits, and carried mementos of triumphant receptions on the southward journey. They wore all fine, sturdy-looking fellows and made a ; rapid march to the barracks. Almost a ; dozen lorries were required to take their i baggage out. Tho arrangements for their reception at the Drill Hall were very complete. The men speak highly of tho manner in which they are being catered for.

To-day the men went for a route march round tho city in the morning, and in tho ■ afternoon were given general leave until •11.30 p.m. Tho following are the names of tho companies (and their officers) which arrived last evening : D Company (complete').—Lieutenants O'Sullivan and Bryce, Second -lieutenants M'AUister, Sim, and Malcolm, 180 men. 'lf Company.—Captain Humphries, Lieutenant Morgan, Second-lieutenants Vaiighan. Rowe, and Allison. J Company (complete).—Second-lieuten-ants Eertrand and Mitchell (both returned from Gallipoli), Second-lieutenants Tolhurst and Angus, 180 men. This company is partly composed of Ot-ago and Southland men, the others being drawn from elsewhere. G Company.—Lieutenants Connor and Neilson, Second-lieutenants Stewart and Blanshard. Balance of Q Company.—Lieutenant Wilkie, Lieutenant Hutton (returned ' from Gallipoli), 100 men. Captain J. L. Haneldcn is commanding all. the troops, and Lieutenant Salmon is adjutant. Regimental Q.M.S. Coyne is supervising the commissariat. TO-MORROW'S PARADE. THE ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. The reinforcements will move off from the Drill Hall at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon and march via King Edward street, Princes street. Octagon, George, Frederick, King. Hanover, George, Princes, and Lower High streets to the » Early Settlers' Hall. The Territorial forces will parade to line the streets. Units will form up in column at the Oval at 1.45 p.m. in the following order : —R.N.Z.A., Anzacs, sth Mounted Rifles, \ B Battery. Garrison Artillery. No. 2 Company Engineers, Divisional' Signal Company. 4th Regiment, '2-4 th Regiment, No. 2 Field Ambulance, Cadets, Scouts. Garrison Artillery, alongside the sth Mounted Rifles: No. 2 Company Field Engineers, next to E.N.Z.A., beyond saluting point, on same side: Divisional Signal Company, beyond saluting point, alongside Anzacs: 4th Regiment, on either side, extending down towardl Bank of Now Zealand : ""2-4-th Regiment, from Bank of New Zealand to Fountain, oil both sides of street; No. 2 Field Ambulance, at High street. Cadets and Boy Scouts will also hold ! certain portions of the route. Units south of the Bank of New Zealand, after reinforcements have passed going north, will lino Lower High street from the Bank of New Zealand to Art Gallery, both sides of road; 2-4 th Regiment will block Rattray street west and Princes street south, and extend line past. ■ Bank of New Zealand on both sides of street down Lower High street; No. 2 Field Ambulance will come next, on both sides of road; Cadets will continue the line, blocking Dowling street, Macandrow street, Crawford street, and Cumberland street to the entrance of Art Gallery. Ei.cht hundred men will he seated m the Art Gallery Hall and 400 in the. Early Settlers' * Hall. The. Tivoli Follies' orchestra have kindly consented to supply the music in the afternoon at the Art Gallery, and tho Orphans' Orchestra will be 'at the Early Settlers' Hall in the evening. Tho Early Settlers' Hall will bo kept open all evening on Saturday, and every soldier will be welcome. Tea and coffee and a light supper will be provided, and a musical programme has been arranged by the Orphans' Club. The committee extend a very hearty invitation to all soldiers, and hope they will turn up in lnrjre numbers at any time during flu evening. COMFORTS FOR THE TROOPS.
