'I o augim-nt this tho street collection taken up yielded over £soo—an eminently satisfactory result. The band of women collectors, v.ii.ii their soldier helpers, worked hard and willingly; Notable amongst the further assistance rendered was that by .Mrs C. Speight, who provided the whole of the refreshments dispensed to the collectors during the day at the Art Gallery Hall, and organised all the necessary arrangements in connection therewith. The staff of the National Bank, under Mr R. Martin, also rendered valuable assistance in counting the money as it came in. The committee of the Y.M.C.A. desire to thank also the proprietors of those hotels and restaurants who extended courteous hospitality to the collectors in their vicinity ; and the executive of the Hospital Saturday Association for personal assist. ance and the use of collecting boxes. The organisations responsible for the various stands were :—The Y.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary Committee, the St. John Ambii.laifce Association, tho Y.W.C.A, the Women's National Reserve, the Otago Women's Club, the Otago Women's Patriotic Association, the Red Cross Society, the Victoria League, the St. Vincent do Paul Society, and the Overseas Club. The returned soldiers who assisted were effectively organised under the direction of Trooper G. Smith (secretary of the Otago Soldiers' Club). All concerned..in the collection were delighted with the excellent result of the appeal.

The total amount collected was £502 15s 9d, which includes £5 contributed by the employees of Wm. Penrose, and which they desired should be credited to the street collection.
