The congregation of the Presbyterian. Church of Balfour have decided to 'extend a hearty and unanimous call to the Rev. George \Y. T. Hercus, of Tapanui. The Row Alexander Adam, who died at his residence, Parkville, Victoria-, on March. 26, was almost tho last of the notable pioneers of the Presbyterian Church in Australia. Ho was born in 1824 at Muirton, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and was educated at tho Aberdeen Academy, and at the Aberdeen-University, whore he had a distinguished career, graduating as Master of Arts when only IB years of age. He sailed with his wife from Scotland m 1853, in company with the Rev. Dr Adam Ca.irns, Hew Dr William Henderson, and the Rev. Archibald Simpson. Shortly after his arrival the 'Bex. Mr Adam was appointed to the Beaufort charge, where he ministered for 47 years, ill-health -causing his retirement. The death has occurred at his residence, R-emuera, Auckland, at the age of 81, of Mr St. Clcre Evelyn Liardcl. who was well known for many years in Wellington. Deceased was the .sixth son of Mr W. F. E. Liardet, founder of Port Melbourne, •which for nianv years was called I/ardel's Beach. Mr 'St. Clere Liardet was anaturalist, and author of a book on. field sports of Australia. He was a. champion oarsman. Ho went to Victoria, with his nareiiU when fivo years of age, and came to New Zealand in the early .sixties. Major James O'Sullivan, who lias been Director of Defence Stores in Wellington, has been appointed Inspector of Ordnance Stores throughout the Dominion. He lias been in the Defence Stores for over 37 years, having originally joinpd the. old Armed Constabulary, and was transferred to the Defence Stores Department in 1885. Since, the beginning of the war he lias supplied everything required by the troops up to the loth Reinforcements, with the exeoptiou of anything connected with food, horses, and forage.
