A VERITABLE JONAH

A seaman named Charles Dunn, who survived in succession the Titanic, Empress of Ireland, and Lusitania disasters, toH his experiences quite recently to the Liver" pool Magistrate, before whom he -was charged with failing to join an Admiralty transport on January 31. Pleading guilty, trie defendant said ho had served in the liners Titanic and Empress of Ireland, both of which foundered at sea, and also ir, the Lusitania and the B.s. Floman, which were torpedoed by German submarines. In consequence of tftf-se experiences, he said, "seamen regarded him as a Jonah," and a disturbance arose on the transport over his ill luck. He alleged the other seamen threatened to throw him overboard if he dared to make a trip in the transport. He therefore left the ship and joined th« Eoyal Naval Reserve, but was' discharged as being unfit for further service The Stipendiary: I think that a man who has been through so much deserves 60me consideration at the hands "of the Magistrate.' I shall therefor© bind you over to be of good behaviour, but if you get into any further trouble you will not be let off again.
