FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH
On Saturday afternoon a serious fire broke out in a big detached brick warehouse and factory situated between the D.I.C. raemifies and Sorensen's auction mart in Lichfield street. The building was a 'three-story one. Messrs Remolds and Kinvig (sottgoods merchants)*,- M. N. Woodfield (accountant), Job Osborne (well sinker), and James Murphy and Co. (manufacturers and warehousemen) occupied the first floor, and Mr R. E. Roberts (clothing manufacturer) occupied the top story. The top floor, with all its contents, was com- | pletely destroyed. A big hole was burnt through the room, and all the machinerywas totally spoiled. On Messrs Mxirphy and Co.*.-? premises the stock was mined. A big stock of clothing, including £I,OOO worth of soldiers' clothes for the Defence Department, which were ready for issue, was absolutely destroyed Downstairs the damage done wao chiefly by water.
