The fortnightly mating last night was attended by the .Mayor (Mr T. Scollay), Crs Fail, Anderson, M'Lachlan, Mavvson, Isbister, Love, Lightbourne, Williamson, and Powell. —Correspondence.— From several of the boys at the front expressing pleasure at receiving the council’s Christmas greetings.—Eeceived. I rom Mr T. J. Harrison, butcher, stating that the slaughtermen at the City Abattoirs refused to kill fof him on the 16th inst., therefore he wag of opinion, now that Carey Bay was joining the borough, that tho butchers could demand the council to construct a local abattoirs. “'•Abattoirg Committee to report. From Mr W. G. Fail, declining a proposed agreement in respect to the now Laing street sewer going through his section. Ho thought the sewer should be laid down Laing street.—After a lengthy discussion it was decided to pay Mr Fail £lO fof permission to put the drain through the section.—Messrs Love Bros.’ tender to lay the drain at Is 5d per foot was accepted, this being.the lowest of six .tenders. From the National Service League, enclosing printed matter and badges in respect to membership in the league.—The papers to lay on table, and an endeavor to bo made to make public the existence and aims of the league. —Reports.— The Works Committee reported that the contractors had now completed the formation of Laing street, and they have made a fair job. They also did the extra work of putting in a path to Mr Knewstubb’s and some filling in at the junction of Laing street with Wickliffe terrace at a cost of £6. The committee recommended that the council take the necessary steps to have 10 electric street lamps erected in Carey Bay in terms of their agreement with the City Council. The contractor was making good progress with the sub-station at Laing street.—Adopted. The Reserves Committee reported that tb" receipts for the past fortnight amounted to £344 3s 3d, and the expenditure io £255 los sd. The reservoir was 12ft Sin below normal.—The shortage of water was fully discussed, and it° was stated that the Water Committee wore carefully attending to the matter. If it were found necessary to cut off the water for certain hours, that would be done, but the committee did not deem such a gtep necessary so far.-rThe report was adopted. —General.— The council formed themselves into a committee for the purpose of helping in every possible way to promote the success of the recruiting scheme. In respect to celebrating the jubilee of the borough a sub-committee recommended that a uriited church service be held on the Sunday, with probably a public meeting during the week; also, that a souvenir booklct.be prepared to commemorate the j municipal jubilee. I It was decided to procure from Mr F. ■ J. Williams an estimate of the cost of a ' new reservoir on Berry’s Creek, this being the site giving the largest storage capacity. The council decided to vary the present agreement with the shipping water officer and to pay him a salary of £l4 per month, an amendment to the effect that it b6 £l2 10s per 'month being lost on tho voices.
