ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
Mr George Aitken. Avho has been acting as relieving train inspector at Milton, met Avith severe injuries on Sunday afternoon, as the result of a fall from his cycle at tho dangerous bend at the foot of the hill at fitony Creek. Ho Avas cycling from Stirling td Milton, and lost control of his machine, being thrown heavily and sustaining •severe cuts on the cheeks, forehead, anil both hands. The Atounds necessitated a number of stitches being put in by Dr Sutherland, of Milton. Whilst gathering blackberries on Walmsky s tram line on Tuesday afternoon Avith other children, a. little son, 15 months old of Mr and Mrs Edgar Wilson, of Waihi Last, fell into a creek and Avas drowned. Hu Avne pulled out by a brother, hut ad t (forts to restore life failed. Tiie death occurred suddenly in Palmerston North on Monday week of a. wellknown settler of Bongotea, Mr James William Fox. Deceased is. supposed to have taken some liniment in mistake for ocugh mixture, and his condition became so grave that, his removal to the Palmerston Hqsrytal was ordered. Ho was be-yond-medical aid, dying shortly after bis admission. Mr .lames Henderson, Avhilc riding ,a bicycle in Hastings street, Napier, collided with an express, receiving fatal injuries. He waa a widower with three children. .Miss Smith, of Greenfield, Otago’s CarniA’al “Queen,” met with an unfortunate accident at Luka Point on Friday. While cranking her motor the starting handle floAy back , and broke and dislocated her Avrist. 3liss Smith showed much courage, and on Sunday Avas able to go to her home at Greenfield.—' Ciutlia Loader.’
