GOLD MINERS’ DISPUTE AD- • JO URN ED. Mr J, E. Triggs (Conciliation Commissioner) sat this morning to hear tha industrial depute’between the Otago and Southliiul Gold Minors’ Industrial Union of Workers and the Otago and Southland Gold Mining Industrial Union of Employers. ihn assessors for the employers were Messrs 11. P. Nees, C. Weaver, and J. C. M'Goorgo. The workers claimed that wages should lie—vrinchmen, firemen, strikers, and daymen, 11s per shift; blacksmiths, 13s per shift; motormen and general laborers, 10» per shift. Eight hours should constitute a. day's work, but each man working on a, dredge should he relieved for half an hour for crib time. The night shift following Sunday should go on at 1 o’clock on Monday morning, and cease work at 8 a.m. The afternoon shift on Saturday should go on at 5 o’clock, and cease work at 10 p.jn., ami the day shift on Saturday should go on at 8 a.m. and cease work at 5 p.m. Prom December 24 to January 7 (both days inclusive) should be holidays. Shifts were to go round—i.e., winchmen, firemen, and, motormen to get their fair and regular turn at day shift. It should be the duty of every non-unionist covered by the award to become a member of the union within 14 days after his engagement. The assessors for the workers failed to appear, and although it would have hgeu competent to proceed with the dispute it was agreed to adjourn sine die.
