GRAIN AND PRODUCE

Messrs Balgcty and Co., Ltd., report as follows:

Oats.—Mew season's grain is now coming forward, but buyers are not prepared to operate to any extent at present. A good demand exists for good feed lines, which meet with ready sale for local consumption. We quote' Prime milling, 3s 3d ; good to best feed, 3s to 3s 2d per bushel (sacks extra). t Wheat.—Samples of new" season's grain ha.vs been coming to hand freelv. b-ut prices have receded considerably, and few sales have been effected on trucks, country jstations. Fcnyl wheal is in fairly good demand at reduced prices. We quote : Best whole fowl wheat, 5s per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.—There has been a. good inquiry for choice lines suitable for shipment. There is also a fairly good local demand, and consignments" have been cleared on arrival at quotations. We quote: Choice lines, £7 to £7 ss; medium to cood, £6 10s to £6 15s per ton (sacks in).

Chaff.—Moderate supplies of old chaff have been coming forward, together with supplies of new season's. The market is dull, and consignments are difficult to quit at quotations. We quote : Prime old chaff, £5 to £5 ss; medium to good. £4 10s to £4 15s per ton (sacks extra).

Messrs _Donald Reid and Co. Ltd., report :—-We held our weekly auction salo of .grain and produce at our stores this morning, .when values ruled as under : Oats.—During the past week there lia.s been ready eaie at late quotations for all new oats arriving in good sound condition. [.Sales have also been readily effected on trucks at country stations. Tho market to-day shows a decided weakness, probably due to forward sales being made in southern districts at reduced "prices, and in consequence shippers' offers are on a lower level. We quote : Prime milling, 3s 2d to 3s 3d; good to best feed, 3s to 3s 2d; inferior to medium, 2s 9d to 2s lid per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat.—Millers, who were operating freely last week, decline to make further purchases except at reduced prices, which farmers are not disposed to accept. This will probably cause a temporary lull in the market. Fowl wheat is offering sparingly. We quote : Best whole fowl wheat, 53 per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.—Consignments.- are now coming forward more freely. .Many of these are • not sufficiently well conditioned to satisfy the Government's requirements as to soundness, and are being quitted locally. We quote : Best, table" potatoes. £7 to £7 ss; others, £5 10s to £6 10s per ton (sacks included). Chaff.—Tho market is more fully supplied, and only best quality meets with ready sale. In some cases' new chaff is being- cut before being sufticicntly matured, -with the result that it arrives in heated condition, and is difficult to sell. We quote : Best oaten sheaf (old). £5 to £5 ss: choice, to £5 7s 6d : medium to good old and best new chaff, £4 10s to £4 15s; light and discolored, £3 10s to £4 per ton (bags extra). i
