SCHOOL COMMITTEES

At the monthly meeting of the Ivaikorai hchool Committee the head master reported that the school was reopened on tho 7th inst. with an attendance of 602, being an increase of 45 as compared with the previous February. The number of Ivaikorai School ex-pupils who had gone out to right the Empire's battles was now 19a. Keith Glasgow and Robert Sinclair (dux boy) obtained scholarships, making 46 in all. The committee resolved to record their deep sense of the loss sustained by the education district in the death of Mr G. C. Israel. Messrs Wardrop and Ritchie were appointed a Visiting Committee for the current month. The Kensington School Committee met on Friday. The head master's report stated t"iat tho roll number was 357, this being a very substantial increase on last year's roll. Tho committee weio pleased to note that the City Council had decided to remove the refuse tip from the vicinity of the school. It was decided to purchase a new attendance banner for the school. The _ sum of £2 Is was received for pen-and-ink money. The chairman moved and Mr Dalton seconded—" That this committee desire to express their sympathy at tho death of Mr G. C. Israel (chairman of the Otago Education Board), and their appreciation of the high and valuable services rendered bv him to the cause of education throughout Otago, the secretary to convey the committee's deepest sympathy to the family." Th 6 motion was carried, all members standing. Messrs Shacklock and Lambert were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
