OVERCROWDED PICTURE SHOWS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l heartily agree with “ Suburbanite’s ” letter in to-night’s ‘ Evening Star ’ in his endeavor to bring the authorities to book for allowing picture theatres and halls to-be frequently overcrowded. This state of things has been going on for a long period now, and I notice that every new show does little to remedy _ matters. On Saturday nights people, instead of being, turned away, are packed in round tho walls,, all standing up and awaiting the chance of a scat at some time or other. But why allow this continual blocking of passages that are none too wide anywhere? Why make regulations if they are to become dead letters? Why have inspectors if their reports are not acted upon? Why waste hours making by-laws and waste money paying inspectors if no improvement is to be the result of it?—l am, etc., Citizen". February 8.
