OVERCROWDED PICTURE SHOWS

TO THB EDITOR.

Mr,—The City Councils by-law for tho prevention of overcrowding in places of amusement would appear to be a, dead letter by what one sees in some- of the picture theatres. I do not visit these, places very frequently, but the oilier evening I was astonished at the numbers in excels of the regulations, which were, packed into a pertain picture theatre in Princes street. The aisles and approaches were completelv filled by a .crowd, through which I had to push my way in order to set out. In doing fo I tripped over a fi.ro hose, ami could not help wondering of what use it would be in case of necessity in such a crowd as that. It is not pleasant to think of what would have occurred in case of a, fire. _ In the interest of the publics safety it is time that tho regulations were more strictly enforced. I have been, told that two inspectors are expected to look after tho ' large number of places of amusement now in existence in the town. If that is tho case it is not fair to them or to the pubHe in whoso interest they am employed, and the sooner more arc employed the better, or eUo the City Council may have ait awful .calamity to answer for.—l am, etc., iSrinmnANiTE.
