PORT CHALMERS ENGINEERS

Yesterday evening, in the Druids' Hall at Port Chalmers, upwards of 20 members of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers met to form a, local branch of the Eoeieiy. The attendance would have been larger, it waa explained, but a number of engineers were engaged at night work, and consequently were unable to be present. CMt Samuel Maddoekf; presided. The election of officers resulted :—President, Mr B. Lindsay: vice-president, Mr Docherty: treasurer. Mr J. Hewitt: steward. Mr Eadie. The chairriian is the present president of the Dunedin branch of the soeietv, and after he had installed the new officers, congratulatory .speeches were made. The Chairman congratulated '.lie new branch on liavimc 30 members for a. start. He considered that it aueured well for the future success of the branch. The newlv electecl president was also congratulated on lu's being the first president of the, branch. In returning thanks. Mr Lindsav said he was proud to belong to what he considered the hoß'j union in the world. ( \r>plause.) He felt the new branch would do well, and he was prepared to do his best to promote its welfare. ; Mr J.
