ITALY'S LOST BATTLESHIP.

(Received October 8, at 12.55 p.m.) The explosion on- the Benedetto Brin shook Brindisi, and the. fumes covered the town like mist, causing. a feeling of terror. Admiral Rubin do Gervin had .left a f<?"’ minutes before the fire broke out. but promptly returned, aiid'ivas holding a. consultation nth the officers in the saloon when the explosion occurred. The whole of the forward part was blown into the air, a.n<! a hail of splintered steel fell on the houses and streets. The greater part of the ship disappeared under the water, which was not deep enough to submerge the wlioh 1 of the vessel. The Admiral and most of the officers perished. The larger magazines aft did not explode. [The pre-Dreadnought Benedetto Brin exploded while lying in harbor at Brindisi on .September 28.]
