SUSPICIOUS FIRE

IX MID-ATLAXIIC,

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright

NEW YORK, September 22.

(Received September 23, at 8.60 a.m.)

The liner Tuscania has arrived with 409 survivors from the Greek steamer Athenai, which was abandoned on fire at sea. The crew fought the fire for 35 hours, assisted by some of the passengers. “5.0.5.” wireless calls brought the Tuscania, who sent a fire-fighting party aboard the Athenai, but they were unable to get the flames under control, and the captain of the Athenai decided to abandon his ship. All aboard were taken safely to the Tuscania and the Rumanian Prince, the latter vessel being due to arrive here to-mor-row.
