(3.50 p.m.), 223 tons, Gillies, ior liluli' and Invercargill. Te Anau, s.s. (4 p.m.), 1,652 tons, for Westport via ports. John, s.s. (9.10 p.m.), 339 tons, Tellick, for .\ a-nganui and northern ports^ Breeze, s.s. (9.20 p.m.), 553 tons, Radford, for Wanganui via ports. The Kaiapoi, with a cargo of bunker coal, reached Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon from Westport. The Whakatane comes out of dock tomorrow and sails for Bluff to load. The Hurunui leaves Port Chalmers tomorrow to continue her Homeward loading at Timaiu. The Kumitra went down to Port Chalmers this afternoon to load produce. The Moeraki leaves Wellington to-mor-row for Sydney. The Koromiko was expected to leave Newcastle yesterday for Wellington. The Kaitangata left Westport to-day for Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin. The Paloona has been delayed with bad weather, and will not arrive here until early on Friday morning from Auckland "via ports. The Mokoia leaves Melbourne to-morrow for Hobart and New Zealand ports via Bluff. The Manuka leaves Wellington for Sydney on Friday. THE FERRY; SERVICE. The Mararoa, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 9.35 a.m. today, and connected with the second express for the south. PALOONA IN A "GALE. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 21. The Paloona arrived at Wellington at 8.30 to-night after an exceedingly stormy voyage of 29 hours from Napier—a trip which generally occupies about 16 hours. Shortly after leaving Napier, at 3 p.m. on Monday, the vessel ran into a terrific southerly gale, with mountainous head seas, and plunged so heavily, causing the propeller to race badly, that it was necessary to slow the engines down. Throughout, the night the vessel logged only from 3£ to 5 knots. The gale continued with unabated force until noon to-day, when the conditions improved, and the Paloona was enabled to proceed full speed ahead. The heavy seas, which noured aboard forward and aft, slightly damaged some deck fittings. The vessel will leave Wellington for Lyttelton and Dunedin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. OVERSEA STEAMERS.
