Forecast. The Government Meteorologist (Rev. D. C. Bates) supplied the following at noon to-day :—Northerly winds, moderate to strong; hazy and cloudy weather for a change; barometer falling soon; sea moderate; tides good. EXPECTED ARRIVALS. —Coastal and Intercolonial.— Paloona, from Auckland, Thursday, September 23. Corinna, from Greymouth, Saturday, September 25. PROJECTED DEPARTURES. —Coastal and Intercolonial.— Paloona, for Auckland, Friday. September 24. Corinna, for Greymouth, Monday, September 27. The Matatua went down to Port Chalmers this afternoon to load cargo. Owing probably to unfavorable weather the Kaiapoi had not arrived this morning from Westport. She was expected to arrive this afternoon. The Te Anau left to-day for the West Coast via ports. The Kaitangata leaves Westport tomorrow for Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin. The Japanese steamer Shinyo Maru Muji, which arrived at Timaru to-dav, is under the charter of Gibbs,-Brighton, Co., of Sydney, and returns to Sydney after discharging. Captain D. Cameron, late of the. Cor- : ■ has been appointed temporary head v.uii’linger at Dunedin for the Union Company in place of Captain Ross, who has taken up a similar position at Westport.

The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Ruahine left Teneriffe on Saturday for London; that the Torigariro left Teneriffe on Sunday for London; and that the Ruapehu left Plymouth on Sunday for New Zealand. It is announced that Messrs G. H. Scales, Ltd., of Wellington, have taken over the Huddart-Parker Company’s new steamer Hebburn on a time charter. The vessel is en route to Dunedin from Bunbury with timber, and will subsequently v-’sit Lyttelton, and Auckland. After .undertaking two further journeys in the intercolonial service the vessel will load wool in New Zealand for London. he is due at Lyttelton about Sunday next. J THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 7.45 a.m. to-day, and connected with the second express for the south. GREAT BRITAIN’S SHIPPING. . The tonnage of vessels entered at ports in the United Kingdom from foreign countries and British possessions with cargoes during the half-year, January-June, 1915, amounted to 16,622.720 tons, and the tonnage cleared to 20,231,986 tons, as against 23,527,588 tons entered, and 33,256,581 tons cleared, during the corresponding period in 1914. With regard to the coasting trade, the tonnage arrived with cargoes during the six months. January-June 1915, amounted to 15,041,576 tons, and the tonnage denarted to 14,421.005 tons, RS against 19,331,744 tons, arrived, and 19.288.932 tons departed, during the corresponding period of 1914.
