AMALGAMATION PROPOSAL

MAORI HILL TO AMALGAMATE WITH THE CITY. The poll of Maori Hill ratepayers on the question of amalgamating with the City of Dunedin took place in the borough yesterday. The polling was not heavy, as out of a total of over 1,400 people on the roll only 680 recorded their votes. It is suggested that the small vote was'due to the fact that those opposed to amalgamation looked upon the result as a foregone conclusion, and consequently did not trouble to register their votes. The voting was as follows:

Tlio proposal was therefore carried by 407 votes. There were 13 informal votes.
