PROPERTY SALE. Messrs Alex. Harris and Co." submitted to auction yesterday a property in B&gg street, Musselburgh, comprising sections 26 and 27, block 3, together with a residence of eight rooms. There was a large attendance of prospectiva buyers. Bidding started at £7OO and rose to £950, at which price the property was disposed of to Mrs Noonan. A section fronting Eskvale street was also submitted, but was passed in after tho bidding had reached £2OO. Messrs E. L. Macassey and Co. offered at their auction rooms to-day on behalf of Mr J. Dyer his brick shop and dwelling on Corporation leasehold ground, situated at 420 King Edward street, South Dunedin. There was a good attendance lof buyers. Bidding started at £SOO and advanced to £530, at which price the property was sold to Messrs J. and E. Scott. UNITED STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY The monthly meeting of directors of the United Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held at Messrs Hugh Mitchell and Co.'s office last evening. A draft report and audited balance-sheet to August 31 were submitted, and the directors expressed satisfaction at the result of the year's operations. The annual meeting is to be held early next month in the Express Company's board room, when £3,000 will be disposed of by ballots and sales. The chairman of directors (Mr E. A. Rosevear), who presided, reported that applications were being received in the proposed No. 4 group, and the total loans granted by the society to date now amount to £121,170. CANADA'S HARVEST IN THE WEST Jjontion 'Times' and Sydney 'Sun' Service*. LONDON, September 13. Winnipeg estimates of the grain in the western provinces of Canada place the total at 565,689,508 bushels. Ninety per cent, of the crop has been harvested, but farmers are disposed to hold for better jprices.
