[Gossip bi Old Identity.] Mr Hugh Gourley's weights for the Otago Hunt Club races have evidently been well thought out, for only 23 have failed to accept, and 82. survive. We shall have a good meeting on Saturday if the weather holds. In the Dannevirke Hunt Club Steeples, J. o'Connell, rider of Belvoir, who was about half a mile behind when he pulled his mount up and trotted back to the paddock, was called before the stewards and cautioned. One of the most attractive performances of the second day at Ashburton (writes "Templar") was that registered by Week End in winning the Maiden Hack Race in the smart time of lmin 1 l-ssec. On the strength of her excellent track work with Medley, the English-bred filly was backed down to a very short price, and once Bell called on her for a final effort she came away like a good one. Week End is by Holiday House, a son of Queen's Birthday and Helen Mary, by St. Serf. This was her first public appearance, and it certainly was a most auspicious one. There is reason to believe that Mr Gerald Stead intends giving Tim Doolan a further opportunity of distinguishing himself in Australia, and the Brookby gelding will probably figure amongst the entrants for the cross-country events at the Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. A. J. M'Plinn will probably go across to ride Tim Doolan in the event of the horse being 6ent to Randwiek. Reputation ran fourth in the Chelmsford Stakes at Sydney last Saturday. The steeplechaser Master Paul, who has been racing in Victoria for the past two seasons, but who was recently turned out for a spell in the south, has again joined R. Longley'e team at Riccarton.°
