Stead will give Tim Doolan the opportunity of earning further distinction m Australia at the Spring Meeting of the A. J. C. next month. WELLINGTON, September 13. Poverty Bay, winners of the ladies' hockey tourney, .were defeated by Wellington by 2 goals to 1. The visitors scored 10 points in the tourney, and Wellington and Wairarapa 9 points each. OTAGO BOWLING CENTRE. The first meeting of the council of the Otago Bowling Centre was held last night; present—Messrs J. R. Glover .(ohaiirman), D. Robertson, W. Nioolson, C. S. Whyte, J. S. Mathieson, J. R. Dempster, W. R. Piddington, A. H. Allen. The Duendin Club wrote suggesting that some distinguishing badge be placed on bowls of the different clubs engaged in the competitions.—lt was decided that clubs request their members to see tfliat their bowls were marked as suggested. The Dunediin Club also wrote suggesting that an elderly bowlers' day be held during the season.—lb was decided that the second Saturday in January be set aside fox an elderly "bowlers? match. The council resolved to join in the "Sports" memorial service at Carisbrook on Sunday, September 26. • Accounts amounting to £2 18s were passed for payment. FOOTBALL. OTAGO RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union was held last evening, the president (Mr H. Harris) in the chair. Mr Harris reported that it was decided to hold a memorial service at Carisbrook on the 26th inst. In the event of web weather it would be held in the Garrison Hall. The Port Chalmers Club asked for an explanation why the High School was credibed in the official record as winners of the third grade competition.—Referred to the Flag Committee for a statement. The Alhambra Club's protest against the awarding of the fifth grade match, Alhambra v. Port Chalmers, to the latter, on the grounds that Port played five third grade players, was referred to the Port Chalmers Club for a statement. _ The Chairman (Mr Harris) drew attention to the statement appearing in the Press relative to the Southern-University match. At half-time Eckhold, of the Southern team, had left #he field, on the plea that he had been hurt, but other reasons were, alleged, in which the members of the Southern team were interested. The Chairman said he had seen Eckhold, md from his interview with the Southern ,)layer he was satisfied that the union were warranted in holding an inquiry. He jnderstobd that the Southern Club proposed holding an inquiry on Wednesday •evening, and the union should hold an inquiry this week. He suggested that the union engage .the services .of a stenographer to take, a verbatim report of the evidence.—lt was resolved that the union bold an inquiry on Thursday; at 7.30, all th« members of the Southern team, the captain of the University team, and a member of the committee to be present. The match Ravensbourne v. Alhambra not played earlier in the season, will be played at the North Ground on Saturday.
