(Received September 14, at 8.5 a.m.) There are now 27,345 men in training in Victoria—the greatest number in camp during the war. s~ (Received September 14, at 9 a.m.) Senator Pearce states that the Defence authorities are able to equip all the men who offer. The military authorities, he says, have no power to.release men from training for agricultural work, -but there is no objection to farmers who enlist deferring their training for a few weeks. Tho authorities state that double the usual number of reinforcements are being despatched, and 10,500 will be leaving monthly until November, when the quota to be raised will be 6,000 a month. No new units are being formed. ' SYDNEY,; September 14. ,_There axe many complaints in connection with the Sportsmen Battalion, because men are drafted into various camps, instead of being kept together. Already 500 are in camp. The councils of the Chamber of Commerce and of the Employers' Federation have both decided to support the Universal Service League. BRISBANE, September 14. The August enlistments totalled 3,013.
