A Customs order has been issued directing that tea and wine and spirit merchants shall not be allowed to clear from bond more than the daily average of the last three months. The clearance of tea and tobacco has recently been abnormal, in anticipation of further taxation. THE WOOL SALES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 11. At the wool sales to-day cross-breds and good merinos were firm, ;and there was keen competition. There were frequent withdrawals of faulty scoured. The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the New' Zealand clips named : —Mahurangi, top 16d, average 15£ d; Kaieto, top 15d. Of 39,216 bales catalogued 33,121 were sold. The Government now permit unlimited exportation to the United States and Allies of cross-bred yarns and pieces, but the prohibition of the export of tops continues. ....
