PETROGRAD, September 10. _ A communique states: In the Baltic Provinces stubborn fighting occurred between Lautke and Jakobstadt. Though the Germans did not offer resistance to our bayonet charges, they delivered a series of attacks for the purpose of driving the Russians from the right bank of the Dwina. We held the enemy's offensive southeast of Skidel (east of Grodno), inflicting considerable loss. The Russians continue their premeditated retreat, and occasionally deliver counter-attacks. On the • road to Rovno (Volhynia) the Russians are holding up great enemv forces advancing along the Olyka-Klevati railway.
