RURAL WORKERS' UNIONS TO AMALGAMATE

[Peb, United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Soptember 3. At the Shearers' Conference to-day Mr C. Graynd'ler was elected vice-president. Seven delegates from the Rural Workers' Union and""one from Palmerston Flaxworkers attended. The proposals drafted at tho Shearers' Conference for rural amalgamation were discussed by the combined conference, and negatived. An amendment by Mr E.. Hunter that the conference advocate as their object to construct one big union of workers employed in the agricultural and pastoral industry—viz., all farm and station workers, creamery, butter, and cheese factory employees, flax-mill workers, shearers, shed hands, frazing works employees, and gum diggers. It was resolved that all classes of workers comprised in the New Zealand Shearers and Woolshed' Workers' Union, the Marlborough Rural Workers? Union, the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union, and the Otago and Southland Farm and Station Workers' Union are desirous of amalgamation, and thai the conference set about obtaining such, amalgamation.
