HOSPITAL BOARD

The fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Board was held last evening and attended by Mr J. H. Walker (chairman). Mrs Gordon. Mrs Jackson, Messrs J. Cummins. W. E. S. Knight. F. G. Cummin;;, A. F. Quelch, W. "T. Talboys. C. N. Scurr, 11. M. Driver, ?nd Dr Brown. —The Late Dr Batchelor; - On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Dr Brown, it was decided—"That this board desire to express their sense of the loss to the community, this board, and the medical profession particularly by the death of Dr F. C. Batchtdor. For a period of 31 years Dr Batchelor occupied an active position on the Honorary Medical Staff, and during the past seven years was a member of the Honorary Consulting Staff of the Dunedin Hospital, in addition to which he was for a number of years the honorary obstetric physician at the Forth Street Maternity Hospital, a member of the old Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and a trustee of the Dunedin Hospital. In each and every position he gave of his best, and served the general public faithfully and well. His familiar figure and kindly and valuable advice on professional matters will be much missed and bis death greatly deplored. To Dr F. H Batchelor and Miss Batchelor, the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board convey their deepest sympathy in their sad and irreparable loss." Dr Brown said that it would be a fitting respect to Dr Batchelor' if the Forth Street Maternity Home was called after his name. As a mark of respect to Dr Batchelor's memory the board then adjourned for 10 minutes. —Correspondence.— Reckitt's Oversea, Ltd., forwarded two guineas to the hospital fund.—Received with thanks., The Inspector-General wrote that the Minister had consented to the sale of section 18, block 23, King street, to the Otago University.—Received. The secretary of the Wellington Board wired: '"The Hospital Committee are adopting the following scale of salaries—-house-surgeon staff commencing' at £l5O and increasing by £SO half-yearly, the maximum being £250."
