THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, Will you allow me to enter a protest against the action of the representatives of some of the queens in erecting stalls in and near Princes street to-day, when to-day was set apart bv the carnival organisers for the Queen of the Dardanelles? Is that playing the game? Ido not think that the queens themselves were made cognisant of what was to be done on: their behalf. The executive of the Queen of the Dardanelles have discountenanced any intrusion on the domain- of 'other queens, and think that in return the executive of other queens should have reciprocated, -especially knowing that today was set apart for the queen on whose behalf I have the honor to be working. I am, etc,, • . James Jeffery. August 14.

However ugjy the baby may be, it generally resembles the wealthiest relative. When the Germans find out that they cannot beat England, France, or Russia, t/ey will do the nest best thing and beat a retreat.
