HOSPITAL EXPENDITURE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On behalf of the' ratepayers of Otago'. allow- me to protest against the enormous and growing expenditure of the Hospital and Charitable- Aid Board. 1 understand that by Act of Parliament provision is made by which the contributing authorities may demand an inquiry, if they consider the proposed expenditure is too much. Ju a recent, conference of tho Inspector-General of Hospitals with the Otago Hosp ; tal Board the former advised economy, saving that tile ratepayers had sufficient burdens on them already. The reply of the Otago Hospital Board 'is a proposed increased expenditure of £13 : 000. This is absurd at-'a- time of financial stress such as the present-.—l a' ll - °te.. Ratepayer. May 31.
