Advice has been received in Christchurch that Major A. B. Charters, an old Christ's College boy, has been promoted to lieuten-ant-colonel, and placed in command of the advanced base. Before joining at Trentham he held the position of 'lieutenantcolonel of the 17th (Ruahiue) Regiment, but left New Zealand for Egypt as major in command of the Ist lnfantrv Reinforcements. Captain J. L. Saunders, reported to-dav dangerously iil. is the son of the Rev. W. A. Saunders, our respected Congregational minister. When recent advice came of his being wounded he was a subaltern in the Otago Company. >o that he must have received promotion for good service.
