HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT
WELLINGTON, November 16. The High Commissioner reports, under date London, November 14. (Note ; (Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average prices on spot) ; The meat market has large supplies. Irish bed and Litglish and Dntcli mutton are coming forward at a reasonable price, which keeps the market steady. There is little demand for frozen mutton, hut prices are firm owing to the short supply at present in store. Canterbury mutton, 6d per lb; North Island, h^d; ewes, s,jd. The lamb market is dull, with very little business doing. Prices have declined. Canterbury two’s. 6 11-16 d ; other than Canterbury, 6td. The beef market is very quiet, with very little, trade doing. New Zealand hinds, 6 3-l6d; fores, s!pl : chilled hin-i, 0-\d ; loros, sid. Butter. Market quiet, but steady. (Quotations : Danish, steady, per owt, 136s to 1395; New Zealand, quiet, i2os lo 128s; Australian, steady, 122s lo 1265; Siberian, quiet, 118s lo 120s; Irish creamery, slow, 122s to 1265; Argentine, a fair demand, 120s to 1245. Cheese.—Market firmer, with a fair demand. Quotations ; Canadian, white and colored, per cwt 75s to 765; deep red, 75s to 775 ; English. Cheddar, 82s to 84s; exceptional, 86s. Hemp.—Market quiet, but rattier steadier. Fail' current .Manila, per ton £23; forward .shipment, December to .January, £23 10a. The output oi Manila lor ihc week is 16,000 bales. Baihcr more interest is shown m New Zealand lids week. At present the price is low. Good fair jgrmlc, per tun £2u, £22 ss: high points are quoted at £2l ss; lair. £2O 15s tor shipment. The- slocks of New Zealand Hemp mi l tow at the end ol October v.mo 1,204 tons. There is a better demand for sisal, but owing to the political situation in Mexico it is diliicult to give reliable quotations. Nominal values, £l9 12s 6d per ton for fair average qualify, £2O 7s 6d for superior quality.
