SYDNEY, August 8. (Received August 8, at 10.5 a.m.) Brigadier-general Bridges ha* been appointed organiser and commander of the Commonwealth Expeditionary Force. It will consist of 20,000 men, comprising light horse, field artillery, infantry, and an army service and medical corps. It is anticipated that the New South Wales quota of 6,000 will be easily obtained. The whole of the permanent military officers of this State, as well as a number of prominent militia officers who saw service in South Africa, have alreay volunteered. Lieutenant Spencer Nolan has offered the Commonwealth Defence authorities a war balloon for scouting purposes, which Captain Penfold, a well-known airman, has offered to manipulate. The Federal Cycling Council have offered to establish cycling corps in the various States of a total strength of 5.000 men. Women are organising in the various States to provide clothing and comforts for the Expeditionary Force. Lord F. BJackwood and Captain Anstruther, the 'Governor-General's aides-de-camp, and aCptain Gale, aide-de-camp to the Governor of Victoria, are departing for the front immediately. PREMIERS TO CONFER ON WAR AND DOMESTIC CONCERNS. SYDNEY, Aupmst 8. Mr Cook has invited Messrs Fisher and Hughes and the State Premiers to confer with him on matters relating to the war, including finance, public works, and checking attempts to inflate the price of commodities.
