GAELIC SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of this society van held at the Art Gallery Hall last evening. The meeting was well attended, though the weather was riot favorable. Chief Dugald MT’herson presided, and supporting the chair were Chieftains Roderick Mackenzie and Kenneth Cameron. In opening the meeting the Chief extended a hearty Highland welcome to the visitors present. Ho altso stated that the annual gathering of the society would take place in September, and hoped to see a large attendance, as that was liis own birthday. ' The senior bard of the society (Mr Neil Mat-fadyen) was present, with Sit* Mae£ady«n.. _ . The national music was supplied by Pipe-major John M’Kechnie, Mr John M'Lean, Mr Angus M'Millnn, and Mr Dan Matheson, jun. Among the visitors present were Captain B. M’Lean (of Auckland) ami Mr P. Duncan (of tho Scottish Society of Christchurch). The usual hour’s dancing followed, and was kept up with enthusiasm. The programme was as follows: —Mr Neil Macfadven. Gaelic Song, ‘Air Faiil Hlo’; Miss MTeak, recitation, ‘The Execution of Montrose ’ ; Miss M ary M'Donald, ‘ Gaelic song, ! Is Thoil Leum a Ghoalteach,’ and encore. ‘ Fhleasgaich Dig ’ ; Mr Willie MTvenzie, dance, seantreus; Highland reel, danced by the audience, y Mr Dan Matheson, jun., Gaelic song. ‘S’ Thoil Leum a Kheibhair'; Mr Angus M’Millan, selections of pipe music; Mr Colin M’Kenzie. jun., dance, Irish jig: Mr Tom Flvnn. song, ‘Oh, Jerusalem ; Highland reel, darned by the audience; Mr Neil Macfadven, Gaelic song, ‘Mo I.iliic’; Mr M'Peak, song, _ ‘ The Spinning Wheel,’ and encore, ‘Bonnie. Doon ’; Highland schottische, danced by the audience.
