GAELIC SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of this society van held at the Art Gallery Hall last evening. The meeting was well attended, though the weather was riot favorable. Chief Dugald MT’herson presided, and supporting the chair were Chieftains Roderick Mackenzie and Kenneth Cameron. In opening the meeting the Chief extended a hearty Highland welcome to the visitors present. Ho altso stated that the annual gathering of the society would take place in September, and hoped to see a large attendance, as that was liis own birthday. ' The senior bard of the society (Mr Neil Mat-fadyen) was present, with Sit* Mae£ady«n.. _ . The national music was supplied by Pipe-major John M’Kechnie, Mr John M'Lean, Mr Angus M'Millnn, and Mr Dan Matheson, jun. Among the visitors present were Captain B. M’Lean (of Auckland) ami Mr P. Duncan (of tho Scottish Society of Christchurch). The usual hour’s dancing followed, and was kept up with enthusiasm. The programme was as follows: —Mr Neil Macfadven.
