ST. HILDA CLUB. The annual meeting of the above com.'.mv and club was held last night. At ihe shareholders’ meeting Mr.). J. Marlow presided. He said that the satisfactory balance-sheet rendered it unnecessary for him to say much. The credit for the year was substantial, and the fact that the dub were in a position to go on with very material alterations to their pavilion

showed that real progress was being made. Me moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet.—Mr \V. Jacobsen seconded, and the report, was approved without discussion.

Messrs J. M’Curdy and D. C. Cameron were elected to vacancise on the directorate ; Mr M. J. Hade, secretary ; Mr A. H. Allen, treasurer : Messrs J. A. Cardno and K. K. Broad, auditors. A vote of thanks to officers for past services was recorded, special mention being made of Mr A. H. Allen (retiring secretary) and Mr W. Paterson (retiring director).

At the club meeting Mr W. Jacobsen presided, and there was an attendance of shoot 50.

Messrs A. Stoneham and J. M'Tndoe, as ,\ deputation from the National Reserve, ti.'.st addressed the meeting on behalf of their organisation. They received a sympathetic hearing, and it was understood i hat many of the club would join, over half fjie meeting standing up as a sign that :bpv would become members.

The President, moving the adaption of the, dab's report and balance-sheet, said that they had had a very successful year. They had gained second place in the banner competition, as against third place the previous year, and he hoped that next season they would occupy the highest position. As regarded the system under which iuterclub matches were played last year the P>alk principle had proved very satisfactory. as the club, with their large meenbership, had been enabled to put m nine rinks as against eight previously. In tournaments. also, tire club had held their i.wn well, several good positions being tilled with honor to the club. A trip had bom made in strength to Oamaru. and the travellers had enjoyed themselves thoroughly. being especially well received. The annual social gathering and the Winter Club had also been great successes.— Mr J. M'Curdy seconded the motion, saying that, successful as the club had been i;i>t year, he hoped it. would be more so next season.—The motion was carried without discussion.

The Green Committee's report, as predated by Mr J. Hungerford, stated that ; K- green was improving steadily and pro-mi.-ed well for the future. Seven candidates were elected as new

members. Mr J. J. Marlow moved—‘‘That rule 25, ■ The secretary of the club shall be treaMtrer. for the time being, of tho St. Kilda Howling Club, Ltd.,’ be deleted.”— To this Mr A. H. Allen moved an amendment —‘‘That the secretary of the company shall be the secretary

if the club, and that the treasurer of the company shall he the treasurer of the club.”—After discussion as to whether ♦ho amendment was necessary the motion v. as carried. Mr A. H. Allen then moved—” Where more than one candidate is to he elected lor any office no voting paper shall be \uiid unles it contains as many names as there are offices to be filled.”—Mr J. G. Robertson seconded.—There was a long talk on this, a number bein<* of opinion that, while plumping was undesirable, its

abolition might create greater evils.—The motion was eventually carried by a large majority. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. MC'unly ; vieer.iresident, Mr A. H. Allen : secretary. Mr M. J. Hade; treasurer, Mr A. H. Allen; assistant secretary. Mr G. G. Adess : Wednesday secretary, Mr S. Barr; Green Committee—Messrs W. Jacobsen, H. Hollyer, J. Hungerford: Wednesday Committee— Messrs A. Sommerell, R. H. Ledlie, H. Barnes: Management Committee—Messrs Stoneham, H. Smeaton, A. Walker, H. Hellyer. E. Tamblyn. D. M'Farlane; Wednesday selector, Mr A. Sommerell; delegates to centre —Messrs M’Cnrdy. Hade, and Allen: Social Committee— Messrs G. G. Adess. J. F. Lough, H. Barnes, J. Nelson, and S. Barr. The matter of one or three selectors was talked over at length. Mr Stoneham moved and Mr Adess seconded that the one-selector system be adhered to; and Mr A. H. Allen and Mr C. Stevenson seconded that three selectors be. appointed. Those in favor of the motion for one selector far outnumbered those favoring three, and Mr D. C. Cameron, jun., was reappointed amidst applause. It was decided to open the new pavilion with a ladies’ social night. Several matters of general interest were discussed, and the meeting concluded after 11 p.m.
