WON BY DUNEDIN HARRIERS. The sixth annual competition for the HHmand Cup was held at Wingatui on Saturday. Tho course was in good condition, altough a little heavy, but Duncdisi Harriers, under whose auspices the iaoa •was held, were favored with better weather icouditions than obtained earlier in the ♦wejek.
The Dunedin Club's team were very soon in the lead, M. Miekelsen going to the front from the start. The field Sti' stretched out. and after going about nile Miekelsen was about 30yds in the 3. Coining to the water jump the first »«the order was Miekelsen, Thompson, raney, C. Frye, G. Notrnan, F. Frye, ttderson. Torrie. Aitken, Mayall. The .._ier jump was the worst obstacle, and several barriers took an involuntary bath. Passing tho post tho first time, the order of the lenders was : Miekelsen, Thompson, C- Frye, Xclman. Henderson, and Swiimey. The second time round saw the Dunedin and Pacific teams going up and the Caversham dropping back. Miekelsen continued to increase his lead round the back straight, but lost a little at the water jump. The leaders went over the water in the following order : Miekelsen, Frye, Thompson, Henderson, F. Frye, Notman. and Torrie. Coming into the straight Miekelsen led by about 50 yards, and had a sreat, reivption on breasting the tape. His time was 17min Ssec. C. Frye finished second, |nd I). R. Frye (Caversham) ... .„ 5 G. G. Notman (Anglican) 6 Mr Rosevear, president Otago Centre, X.Z.A.A.A., presented the Gup to the Dnnedin captain (W. llayall), and congratulated the team on their win. He stated that it had been won by the Caversham Club for several years, and he was pleased to see it change hands after such a well-contested race.
Mr Mayall, in responding, said his club would do their best to retain the Cup, and called for cheers for the other competing teams. Cfaveishnm were without the services of D. Jack and J. ■ lieatson.
