AMUSING ELECTIONEERING INCIDENT.
An amusing electioneering incident is related by the 'Gaulois.' A member of the Departmental Ctfuncil of a department near Paris, -wishing to ensure re-election to that body, drove down on a recent Sunday to a country town in his constituency in a luxurious open, motor car. Meeting the townspeople coining out of church, he stood upon the. seat of the car and began a speecli. " Gentlemen," he started, " I have come amongst you to *' The Councillor had gone no further when an elderly peasant, pushing his way through the crowd, climbed on to the step of the ear with mouth wide open. "That's the 011© that's hurting me," he said, " the. big one at the back. Out with it!" A great deal of explanation was necessary before the yokel understood that the Councillor was not a travelling quack dentist.
