STOLEN DOG'S ROMANCE
MASTF" Tf-P- - T ''" ,e " PRIZE WINNER AT SHOW.
There was a remarkable sequel at Maids nhead to a chance visit paid by a local tradesman named Parker to Cruft's Dog Show, held recently. Mr Parker had possessed a fine brindle bulldog named Ugly, valued at £75. During his absanes from his shop for a minute or two on October 2 Ugly was •stolen,- and all efforts to trace it and the thief failed. On February 13 Mr Parker visited -Cruft's Dog Show, and -when walking through the bulldog section was amazed to find Ugly on view, with a first prize ticket attached to his kennel. Ugly recognised his master, wagging his tail, and answering to his" name. Police inquiries elicited that the dog was shown by a Bronipton road exhibitor, who had purchased it in the ordinary way of business for £5 from a man named John Benjamin Mason. The latter was traced, arid was found to be undergoing a term of imprisonment for dog-stealing. He was brought up from Reading Gaol on a Home Office order, charged with the theft of Ugh-, which was in court, and an object of magisterial interest. Mason was ssntenced to live months' hard labor.
