RETURNS. Success: 390z lldwt, 136 hours. Electric No. 1: 21oz Bdwt, Sidays. Red Jacks: 17oz 16dwt, 128 hours. Rising Sun: 440z 18dwt, 133 hours. Rise and ■ Shine No. 1: 38oz 7dwt, 13p hours. ' Rise and Shine No. 2: 220z 2dwt, 136 hoursOlrig : lloz 12dwt, for the week. WATCHMAN A total distance of 131 ft had been driven from the No. 4 rise on tho middle parallel reef, Watchman mine, Tararu, last week. The footwall measured 3ft wide, and occasionally showed gold freely. The quartz being broken was all that could be desired. South of No. 4 rise, the reef measured about 6ft wide, was all quartz, and showed gold in the stone occasionally. WAIOTAHI. The sinking of the shaft at the Waiotahi mine was proceeded with last week, and it was down 882 ft from the surface, leaving 48ft to connect with the rise, and 141 ft to complete to the I,oooft level. A fair amount of water was making in the shaft, and this had retarded progress. WAITANGI CONSOLIDATED. Tho ore coming to hand last week from No. 4 level, Waitangi Consolidated mine, Tararu, looked well, and was carrying good minerals. The width of the reef from the hanging wall was over Sft. A further 3ft was risen in No. 2 rise east. At this point a connection was made with the winze sunk from No. 3 level. NEW WAITAIA. Tho north drive at the intermediate level of the New Waitaia mine is in 102 ft past the new rise. The reef is 18iu wide, along the back, but smaller in the floor, on account of a small break. The ore still show's gold and prospects fairly. In the north stopo a nice reef 15in to 18in wide is showing. At the south end the reef is only a few inches thick, but shows coarse gold freely. The north drive off the east crosscut is carrying a littlo clean quartz, and as there is a heavy flow of water the reef should make shortly. RISING SUN. , The manager of the Rising Sun mine, Ow'haroa, reports for the week ended April 25 that the contractors extended the drive on No. 1 reef another 13ft, making a total distance of 54ft driven since starting their contract. The reef showing in the face was about 18in in size, and was continuing to carry good values. WAIHI PAEROA. For the four-weekly period ended April 25 the Waihi Pacroa Gold Extraction Company, Ltd., treated 12,600 tons of tailings for a return of £3,100. A total of 280,500 tons has now been treated by tho company, for returns valued at £86,711 6s sd.

THE SHARE MARKET,

DUNEDIN EXCHANGE. Although the business transacted on and off ’Change during the week has not been above the average, all classes of shares have maintained their values, and the market generally has been firm. A few lines in the investment division, especially bank stocks, showed an advance in prices. This morning two parcels of Waihis changed hands at 43s 3d. Neither Waihis nor Junctions showed any great variation in price. There was good inquiry for investment stocks, but few sellers were on the market. The following, are the noon quotations :
