CANARY AND CAGE BIRD CLUB

The annual meeting of the Otago Canary and Gage Bird Olub wa» held on Honda*, in the Tivoli Tea Rooms, George street. The president (Mr J. Simmonds, jilri.) presided over a large and enthusiastic gathering of fully 50 memWsfs. .'_,.. The balance-sheet and report showed the club to bo in a flourishing position. The membership now stands at 75, and two mora were proposed at the meeting, and the keen interest displayed by the members points to another successful year. The election of officers resulted! as> follows : —President, Mr J. Sinimorids, jnn. (re - elected); vice - presidents Messrs Thompson, Simmonds, sen., Grainger, and Auld; hoh. seraetary, Mr R. Laing (reelected) : committee—Messrs J. Masterton, Thompson, Cursey, and Auld; auditors, Messrs Stephens and Grainger. The President thanked the members for their continued confidence in him, and urged them to keep their shoulders to the wheel, and so forward tho progress of the club. . .

A presentation of a silver-mounted clock was made to Mr Hill, who has acted as judge at various shows, and the members took this opportunity of showing their gratitude and esteem. Mr Hill holds credentials for judging canaries in the Crystal Palace shows, and his services have been invaluable to the club.—Mr Hill Suitably responded* and assured the members that he would always be ready and willing to assist club in any direction. This concluded the business. The meeting then went into harmony, opening with a pianoforte solo by Mr W. Simmonds, songs by Mr Ryland, and recitations by Air Stanley Foots. After supper a song was given by Mr J. Masterton, recitations by Mr J. M'Connell, and songs by Mr ! Borrow and Mr J. Simmonds. The last item' on the programme was a short .address ;o the club by Mr Donald M'Lean, a rei spected member, and the meeting closed I with ' Auld Lang Syne.' Weekly meetings j are to be held in Mr Binnie'B until after I the sholv in June.
