Mr W. B. S. Mac Donald, M.P., met with a painful accident on. Friday, wliea stepping out of his bath at Lome, Gisborne. He-fell heavily, and sustained a fracture w two ribs.

Mr A. M Myers, M.P. for Auckland East, left London on Saturday on his return to New Zealand, accompanied by Mrs Myers and family. Travelling across __ Canada, tiny will join the Niagara at" Vancouver, and arrive in Auckland on June 2.

The Hon. F. W. Young, who was Commissioner of Grown Lands in the Peaks Administration, has been appointed AgentGeneral for South Australia, but will not take up hie duties in London till next year. The appointment appears to have caused gt-ner.'U surprise in political circles in South Australia. The Premier (Mr Peake), in announcing the appointment, said: " Ministers feel confident that the appointment will meet with the approval of Parliament, and wi'l commend itself to the people throughout the country, for he will do credit to the State. He will not be tha first native-born South Australian to hold tho office, for that distinction belonged to the late Sir John Cox Bray. Mr Young's piofessional training, his well-known business capacity, added, to his wide knowledge of pastoral and agricultural interest*, and his experience in ths Crown Lands Office should thoroughly equip him for his new and highly-responsible duties." Mr Young is a lawyer by profession. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher will speak at Win ton on Monday, at Kiverton on Tuesday, and at Clinton on Thursday. Air V. H. Bremner has been appointed head master at Ngapara, Mr K. G. Luke sole teacher at Wairuna, Miss J. B. Harris sole teacher at Evans Flat, Mrs Wilson sole. teacher at Whare Flat, Miss M. G. The Rev. T. A. Williams, of Sydenham told a. reporter on Wednesday (says the 'Lyttelton Times') that tiler was no truth, in the statement telegraphed from Wellington by the Press Association that ho had been appointed organiser for the National Schools Defence League. The following Otago appointments in connection with the Salvation Army are officially announced:—Adjutant Aphra Thompson, to the Dunedin Maternity Hospital ; Captain Adelaide Hull, to Mcsgiel; Captain Alfred Kemp, to Dunedin ; Captain William Campion, to Queenstown; Lieutenant Isabel Cunningham, to Mosgiel; Lieutenant John Graham, to Bluff. Mr A. R. Stow, of Melbourne, is on a visit to Dunedin in connection with the industrial and ordinary work of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Societv. Mr David Leech, a. weil-known resident of Port Chalmers in years gone by, died it Tirnaru yesterday, at the age of 60. Mr Leech was in the Port Chalmers Council for a number of years, and was an enthusiastic member of the local fire brigade (of which he was captain), and president of the United Fire Brigades' Association in 1897-98. He was present at the Fire Brigades' Conference in Akaroa last March. After leaving Port Chalmers he resided for some time in Westport before taking up his residence at Timaru. Deceased held high rank in the Masonic fraternity. His funeral takes place at Port Chalmers on Sunday afternoon. Mr Robert M'Nab has received intimation that he has passed the examination for the degree of Doctor of Literature. We- tender our congratulations to Di M'Nab.
