After being in Court more than 1 three rears, a decision in the case of Fred Benson, Harry Morse, Edward Jones, Wallace Stazmers, and Charles Peterson, sailors who libelled the schooner Edward E. West, allowing the sailors each a Judgment of 21 dollars, has been handed down by Judge £. £. Cushman at Tacoma. The sailors started the suit on the' ground that they had almost starved on the trip from Callao to Gray’s Harbor. It was proved in Conri that the butter supply had been exhausted in 21 days, and Judge Cushman allowed each man Idol for every day he was deprived of batter. COST OF SHIPBUILDING. An ordinary cargo steamer to carry 7,500 tons d.w on 24ft draught could be contracted for in the United Kingdom today, at £46,000, and it is difficult to see where any further ’’eduction in the cost of steamers is toe sear future is to come from. The present position of British shipbuilding industry is peculiar, as . materials are low in p a, while o-al is dear is<l wages are v ry high. The inference to bo drawn from this is that, except for the sake of keeping their yards employed, British shipbuilders are. not likely further to reduce their prices. SHIPPING T3LEGR-* MS. LYTTELTON.
