A BLUNT PROTEST
RESENTED BY HOSPITAL BOARD. At last night’s meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board’s Finance Committee a letter was received from the “foreign” insurance companies in Dunedin protesting against the action of the board in declining to insure their property against fire or their liability under the Workers’ Compensation Act with companies other than the “ local ” ones. The letter was held over to be dealt with at Thursday’s meeting. _ In connection with this matter, Airs H. L. Ferguson, a member m ■< board, laid before the members a letter received by her from the manager of one of the insurance companies concerned, advising her of the protest being made and stating that “ there are certain gentlemen, members of the board, who have their own particular reasons for these insurances going to the local companies.” This statement was resented by the members, and the following resolution was passed, to be forwarded to the company by whom the letter was written to Airs Ferguson:— That certain members of this board regret that a general accusation should bo made against some of thenmembers, and desire that a representative of the Royal Insurance Company furnish this board with the names of those gentlemen, members of the board, who have their own particular reasons for these insurances going to the local companies.
