"EX-VOLUNTEER" AND CAMP LIFE.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—Referring to “Ex-Volunteer’s” letter in last night’s ‘ Star,’ he .could not know that I have had some experience of camps, military and otherwise—possibly before he was born—and have pleasant memories of good comrades; but I cannot take bis and suchlike complaints about the treatment of some of “our boys” at Matarae seriously. If they had arrived in camp after a heavy march, or from a long journey, I dara say the “ billies ” would have been boiling ; but after a few hours’ travel by rail! It is a long time since I was young, but I think that the average young man does not like being fussed over about trifles.—l am, etc.. Father. April 28.
