Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following advice by cable from their London office concerning' the opening of the s ec ° n <| j series of wool sales in London on the 2nd l inst. :—"There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental, and American buyers.being active, and prices as compared with the close .of preceding series ruled higher about 5 per cent, for crossbred, 7J per cent, for merino, 10 per cent. , for others. The opening catalogues were ! fairly representative." , The Bank of New Zealand have ( been advised, from London as follows: —"The sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is active demand by all branches of the trade.' Total net quantity New Zealand available, 60,000 bales. The market is strong and prices are higher for coarse cross-bred M to Id per lb," medium and fino cross-bred Id to l£d per lb."

LONDON, March 4.

At the wool sales 8,723 bales were offered, including 5,644 from New Zealand. There was an excellent se||ction of cross-breds. There was a crowded' attendance, including a record number from the United States, and the keenest competition for all classes, the United States and Yorkshire bidding excitedly for crossbreds, and Yorkshire and the Continent for merinos.
