'Milestones,' 'Wrecks of Southern Ne.v Zealand,' is the title of a valuable work of reference just to hand from the the per. of Mr J. W. H. Banxierman, editor of tho
'Bluff Tress.' This publication will supply a long-felt want, and we know of nothing which gives such a comprehensive list of the shipping disasters of Otago and the outlying Auckland, Campbell, Bounty, and Macquarie Islands. No less than 160 wrecks are noted, and they go back as far as 1788, over a century ago. A summary at the conclusion states that 738 lives were lost in the wrecks dealt with ,and tlie monetary loss is estimated at £1.087,000. Mr Bannerman's publication is priced at the modest sum of Is, and will appeal to all those interested in our local sea lore.
